  • First, establish whether the water escaping is greater than expected Normally water will gently discharge from this valve when water is being heated
  • BEWARE WATER IS SCALDING HOT. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. Gently raise the lever on the valve and gently lower the lever back into position. Do this two or three times to clear any obstacles that may be present.
  • If water still flow out of the valve, turn the gas off to the system. A gas cock should be close to the system and only require a half a turn to close it.
  • Turn the water stop cock off at the hot water system, this should stop or reduce the flow of water.

No Hot Water at the Taps

  • Check other hot water taps to see if the problem is limited to only one tap or an area. Check the cold water taps as well.
  • Check for broken pipes or leaking hot water cylinder (see section above on leaking cylinders)
  • If no water is evident at the property, check for the possibility of a council outage, burst pipe or frozen pipe in colder areas.
